Camera Cage
History
This project began with a desire to improve my videography skills. When shooting video an issue that I have is being able to hold a stable image. When looking up prices for camera cages I saw they ranged from 150-300 dollars!!! When I saw this I thought I could make one, no biggie. Thus the idea for this design was born.
The design consists of three components. The cage, the top support and the handle. They are all being held by 1/4"-20 X 3/4" machine screws and their respective nuts. The camera itself is connected to the cage by a 1/4" threaded hole located at the bottom of the camera.
On the right you can find photos of version 1, and version 2. The improvements made in version 2 include the ability to rotate the screen fully as well as handles in the front for easier hold and access to shutter button.
Below you can find the drawings for the three components, all three following ASME Y14.5 for proper GD&T and allow for ease to be manufactured.
